Looking to enhance your math skills? Enroll in the Math Olympiad class. This is a new offering for students in 4th-8th Grade.
Vedic Madhu is a member of the MOEMS, the Mathematical Olympiads for the Elementary and Middle School level. She has several years of experience officiating the Math Olympiad contests by MOEMS. She will be offering a program at Saint Andrew's with a curriculum that spans all 3 sessions. This course trains and prepares students for the math olympiad contests:
- Teaches the important steps of the problem solving process
- How to approach a problem, understand what the problem is
- How to devise a strategy to solve or implement different strategies to solve a problem
- Teaches Solution review
This course covers important problem solving strategies:
- Draw a Diagram or a Chart
- Find a Pattern
- Make an Organized List or Table
- Solve a Simpler Problem
- Guess and Check,
- Patterns in Arithmetic Sequences/Build Sequences/Work Backwards
- Logic and Reasoning
- Form and Solve Equations
Math Olympiad also teaches important math concepts like Counting, LCM, GCF, Divisibility, Geometry, and Venn Diagrams. Students will also solve some practice contests and take the 5 official Olympiad contests.
This program runs for the entire academic year and consists of three sessions: fall, winter, and spring.
This class is designed for students in 4th-8th Grade. The course will be divided into two separate times.
Cost per session is $235 + $25 material fee. No refunds for early withdrawal or pro-rating for missed classes.
